eInvoicing milestone for New Zealand
New Zealand’s journey into eInvoicing officially began with a major milestone—one that involved Acume at the centre.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), acting as the New Zealand Peppol Authority, has played a critical role in championing eInvoicing adoption. As the lead agency, MBIE didn’t just promote the transition—they led by example.
On 1 July 2021, MBIE received its first live eInvoice. And it came from none other than Acume.
That initial transaction—a modest $5.75 invoice—might seem small, but it proved that the eInvoicing infrastructure was ready. It successfully connected MBIE’s internal accounting system, its access point provider, and Acume, a recognised and registered eInvoicing-enabled software provider. The successful delivery marked a technical and operational milestone, confirming that MBIE could receive eInvoices in production ahead of its internal deadlines.
This early success demonstrates that New Zealand’s public sector is serious about digital transformation—and sets the stage for broader adoption across government and business.
There’s still work to do, but the message from government is clear: eInvoicing is the future.
As Small Business Minister Stuart Nash said:
“eInvoicing is going global, and we need to keep up.”
If your business supplies government or works with partners already on the Peppol network, now’s the time to get ready.
